It may just be me (but from other comments I don't think so) but I find beer in London to be warm and flat [1] a lot of the time. Probably a lot of uncooled cellars.
[1] I don't like fizzy beer but I do like *some* condition in the beer.- Vote on answer

When down in the West country, we always looked forward to Doom Bar. Sorry to hear it's slipped. Used to be one of the steadies.

I think you'll find it is perfectly excellent in general but the OP went to a pub that couldn't be bothered to look after it.

I had an excellent pint of it today in my local.

Only ever enjoyed it in The Old Success at Seenen Cove.
Bit like certain other 'flagships' that never seem as good in the guest trade.

Yessss. That was the place. Lovely pub. Good food. Good ales. We stayed in a b&b down by land's end and walked across to Sennen Cove to The Old Success. Great memories!

Yes, I never really seem to enjoy 6X or London Pride. I found myself stuck in a pub for the evening recently, that served both of them, and nothing else. :)
All the best, Angus Manwaring. (for e-mail remove ANTISPEM)

But surely most of the above have been deliberately dumbed down and brewed to a price for the pub company estate trade?
Once a beer become a national brand it tends to be sold in a lot pubs where the landlord/manager doesn't know or doesn't care about keeping and serving a real ale. As a result you are more likely to get a pint of something that once resembled the original beer.

My local pub seves a lot of Bombardier-I rarely drink it as I normally go for the guest ales and tend to overlook it. Had a pint recently though and it was a revelation. If all pubs served it like that the sales would rocket.

I had a not very good pint of it last week in the Pride of Spitalfields on Heneage Street in East London.
And the Crouch Vale Brewers Gold was off as well. Pity always found it excellent in the past.

Actually in my experience no. It is more to do with how the beer has been kept which for a lot of beers in the last is often pretty badly.
