Jennings Cumberland Ale

Jennings Cumberland Ale is to flood the country; it is to be available in at least 2500 pubs across the country. WDB Brands Managing Director Alistair Darby said: "We believe that Cumberland Ale has huge potential in the national market and this was a key reason for buying the famous brand." (So now we know!!)

What we in the local area worry about is, if there is going to be so much extra Cumberland Ale required, where will it be brewed? If in one of the under-used breweries that W & D have taken over and not yet closed, it won't be Cumberland Ale. If at Cockermouth, what will happen to the other 11 beers that they brew, as all the capacity is used up brewing this vast quantity of a single beer?

Can't see Jennings Mild being available much longer!

It was irritating to hear the local BBC news describe Cumberland as having been brewed in Cockermouth for the last 100 yrs - it is a relatively new beer! I think around 15 years old.

Hi Chris, ISTR that when I first tasted Jennings mild it was being brewed by a Scottish brewery & despite its excellence was scrapped a few months later. Is it now being brewed at Cockermouth?

You might be thinking of Jennings Oatmeal Stout, which was brewed at Broughton Brewery and soon scrapped!

Always has been AFAIK, though in fairly limited quantities.

Thanks Chris, you are correct. Alcohol doesn't improve my memory.
