News - Strike at Ampersand/Federation?

After rumoured strikes at Carlsberg Northampton (now averted?) & the recent stoppage at the doomed Boddies brewery, it seems grievances over the handover to ScotCo have caused the former Fed workers to consider going on strike. cheers MikeMcG from

UK: Strike threat at Scottish Courage brewery

13 Dec 2004 Source: just-drinks.com editorial team Staff at Scottish Courage's Federation Brewery in Gateshead are set to go on strike next week. Around 70 staff will take part in the 48-hour walkout starting on Sunday (19 December). An overtime ban will be implemented at the same time at the brewery bought by Scottish Courage earlier this year.

The workers are unhappy at Scottish Courage's offer of a 3.2% pay rise if unions call off a tribunal launched against the company alleging failure to consult workers over the buy-out, which saw the staff numbers at the brewery reduced by about 100.

Union officials believe the pay offer should be without any clauses attached.

When the Gateshead brewery was transferred to Scottish Courage, bosses failed to consult staff, unions allege. ____________________________________________________
