O'Hanlons, Tysoe St, London

This is in the 2004 GBG.

Called in there this evening after the Globe. It's not very promising now. Ownership and name changed 6 months ago to "Mulligans" apparently.

Only One ale on (Robinson's Stockport ale) which was so-so.

No real ale in bottles was visible.

Looks like one to pull from the guide :(

Actually Pat Mulligan (landlord of the nearby Packenham Arms) has owned the pub for about 4 years, ever since O'Hanlon's Brewery moved out of London. It was originally part of the agreement of sale that the place would not be called O'Hanlon's and for many months had no name above the door.

Pat could not decide on a name and didn't like any of my suggestions (including Mulligan's). I don't visit that often and upon returning one day found the place was called "O'Hanlon's Little House". Pat told me they had agreed to let him use the name as he still couldn't think of another name.

You are correct that the change to Mulligan's was made about 6 months ago, as it was operating under that name when I visited it in March. At that time they were no longer carrying the O'Hanlon's beer range, but featured 3-4 beer on draught.

All I can say is you were lucky to find Robinson's on, I was there with two American friends at the end of July and all they had was Fuller's London Pride. We left without buying a beer. I did try to find Pat at the Pakenham to ask what was going on, but he wasn't around.

ISTR that they held a competition to find a new name for the pub, but it remained as O'Hanlons for ages afterwards.

The O'Hanlon's name was removed soon after Pat took it over (end of

2000), it may have been when the renovations started. I believe it was the beginning of 2002 that it was re-named O'Hanlon's Little House. I actually posted to this newsgroup in March 2001, refering to it as the Pub Formerly Known as O'Hanlon's because there was no name outside.
