Porter's Railway in Stockport ?

Has Alex left ?

Popped in there on Thursday (first time in a few months) to be greeted by new management signs on the walls and dreadful Sunshine and Rossendale.

Very disappointing

I'm told Alex left two or three weeks ago and for a while there was a temporary licensee which may explain the poor beer you encountered. A new permanent licensee has now been appointed and early indications from those who have been in there are that the beer quality is fine.

Any idea where Alex has gone to ?

Was only last Thursday so either the omens are not good - or the new landlord hadn't had time to sort it out.

My drinking buddies left their Sunsh and Ross unfinished - my bitter was drinkable but a bit "stale - musty"

Will leave it a few weeks to settle down - guess it will be out of the next GBG now.

Nope, sorry. We have a branch meeting on Thursday where no doubt all will be revealed.

And you remember what a fuss there was last time something similar happened :-(

Hope he is still in the trade - I thought he was a good un.

Indeed - what a kerfuffle !

Thanks Peter

I doubt Mr Porter will be as bothered this time. He's made no secret of the fact he wants to exit pub management. With the Railway sold some time ago and the Arthur soon to close, he'll soon be free to concentrate on his brewery installation business.

Are you *the* Alex !?

Where is the Arthur ? Is that the Rossendale pub ?

I like to think that I am "the Alex," but I'm not he, you refer to. The Arthur is in Bury. The Griffin is the Rosendale pub.

For what it's worth, Dave Porter has made it clear that he will be keeping the Griffin going and looking for a Stockport replacement for the Railway when it eventually shuts (probably in a couple of years or so).

There's no reason why it shouldn't appear in the 2006 GBG and if the new licensee is up to scratch I confidently expect that it will do so.
