To my shame, Iv'e never been there, despite there being a train service from Lancaster, but I've never heard a bad word said about it and I'm sure it;s a good choice. You have to be careful about the hours, and if you're going by train you have to remember to tell the guard you want to get off.

Yes a great pub, but I think the Mason Arms, Broughton, the Anglers, Haverthwaite and Watermill, Ings are even better!

Stands back...

Noooo! They're Yorkshire folk - do you really think they'd do anything to compromise their income?!!!

I just got told yesterday that the reason why they have never been branch POTY before, is because, as active CAMRA members they were entitled to vote, and instead of abstaining, they voted for the competition!

( ermm .... before is because as .... sounds right when I say it but looks daft when I write it!!)

CAMERA has 60,000+ members. Two votes in a branch cannot make much of a difference to which pub gets the Pub of the Year for the area.

CAMERA?

Yes Camra may have 60k plus members. But they can't vote in every branch - only members in a branch area can vote. Then, just how many of them bother to actually vote?

oops.

If too few members are actually voting and two votes skew the result so much perhaps there is something very wrong with the voting system. Surely the branch membership should be in the hundreds and not single figures?

Well it would be a difference of four votes, actually. (think about it)

And in a branch where 10 or 11 members show up to meetings, it could be highly significant if they select their POTY by a vote at a meeting!

You obviously do not know where the pub is.

Just for the record, POTY voting in the Furness branch is by Postal/Email ballot. Attendance at meetings is not a prerequisite to exercise your right to vote.
