Thurn & Taxis is dead, bought by the Schörghuber Group (Paulaner) and eviscerated several years ago. Bloody shame, but typical of what's been going on in German brewing for the last few years.

The Johannes Albrecht chain has an outlet in Regensburg, but the places of most interest are the Spitalhof and Kneitinger pubs. The Spitalhof is across the "Steinernes Brücke" ("Stone Bridge") from the city centre, and is worth a visit. There are two places serving Kneitinger; the original brewery pub is in the old town, more or less on the western side, and the second house is south of the city centre up the Galgenberg. Both serve Kneitinger beers, and if you're there during the right season, Kneitinger Bock is a treat.

The other big brewery in town, Bischofshof, also has a business arrangement with Kloster Weltenburg for some production and packaging. Bischofshof has a big restaurant in the city centre.

If you have the means to travel, there are other destinations in the vicinity, including Kelheim, home to a couple of wheat-beer breweries (including Schneider), and the aforementioned Kloster Weltenburg, whose beers are served in a pub-restaurant on the monastery premises.

There are other good pubs worth a look in the city centre as well.

Thanks, You seem well informed on Bavarian breweries... I'll be visiting Munich, Regensburg, N'berg this summer. Any chance of my finding Weihenstephan on tap in these places? Or so I have to head to the brewery at Freising?

I've been there a few times, and will likely be in Franconia again later this year if things work out.

A chance, yes, but I don't have any specific memory of a restaurant or pub in either of these cities where you'll find Weihenstephan.

This isn't such a bad thing; S-Bahn from Munich to Freising, then a bit of a hike to the Weihenstephan Bierstube. Makes for a nice day out. IIRC, there's another brewpub in Freising as well.
