Salford Beers

I'll be checking out the Crescent at Salford next week. Any other Salford pubs worth a visit while I'm there please?

Also, where can I be sure of getting Bazen's or Facer's beers in either Salford or M'cr city centre please?

Thanks, Lee.

The King's Arms, Bloom Street acts as the unofficial Tap for Bazen's. Turn right out of the Crescent and follow the main road to the third (I think) set of traffic lights and turn left. There will be Bazen's and possibily Facer's in there.

Try also the Albert Vaults on Chapel Street, a few yards from the Kings Arms - they usually have Bazens Black Pig (and Phoenix Arizona).

There's not much to get excited about west of the Crescent unless you want to go beyond the true City of Salford and hit Eccles (the Lamb at Eccles tram stop is a very splendid Holts pub). East of the Crescent... um... the Eagle in Collier Street -

- is a fine traditional back street boozer (Holts again). The Olde Nelson, sadly, is closed and boarded up. The only other GBG entry round there is yet another Holts pub, the Union Tavern, a bit off the beaten track though.

You /might/ hit lucky at the Mark Addy, a very attractive modern pub on the bank of the River Irwell just off New Bailey Street (near Salford Central station) - but its cask ales have been very hit and miss lately, more often off than on. When they're on, they tend to be from micros like Cottage (pricey though).

If you're after beers from micros, you're probably better off in Manchester's Northern Quarter - see for some suggestions.

You could also try the Junction at Hendham Vale, Smedley (off Rochdale Road - ), for a range of beers from Beartown Brewery.
