Smiles Tap Room

Apr 19, 2006 3 Replies

Hi, Anyone know what beer can be found in the Smiles Brwery Tap in Bristol these days please? Someone I met recently in Derby reckoned they had Bristol Beer Factory beers on. Haven't been since Smiles stopped brewing there but I always liked the pub.

I'll be visiting Bristol this weekend. Is it worth a look?

Thanks, Lee.

Dunno, haven't been there in years !

The Wellington or Inn on the Green (North Bristol / Horfield) are worth a look (4 minute walk between), especially good selection in the Inn (which has a beer festival on the 30th April, approx 30 beers on offer)

As is the Bag O Nails (in Hotwells, South Bristol), and the Hope and Anchor up the road from that (same 4 minute walk). The Bag O' has a beer festival on the 27th April, sure you can't delay the trip for a week ?

In fact you're spoiled for choice, there are dozens of good real ale pubs in Bristol, it's worth a look on the CAMRA Bristol site for more info and their rundown of local pub news :

We called in there after the 'Bag O'Nails' BF last Saturday (22nd April), and this is what we tried ...

1) Smiles 'April Fuel' - Very 'murky' but the cask was changed very quickly for us. 2) Bristol Beer Factory - 'Red' 3) Moles /Thatchers - 'Black Rat' Cider

There was another Beer ... but as we'd already called into the 'Berkeley' - The 'Bag O'Nails' - 'Zero Degrees' and the 'White Lion', I seem to have ... um .. 'forgotten' what it was ! ;o)

The pub was surprisingly empty for a Saturday afternoon, with only myself and my friend in there for just over an hour !

Cheers ...
