Switch to beer. That'll allow us to forgive you for busting in here and posting OT.

Sucks 2bu.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobatamy. I think that's the problem you're up against.

Patient:"Doc, it hurts when I go like this."

Doctor: "Don't go like this."

Give 'em hell Bill. Glad we finally got to meet last Monday in San Diego. I'm doing something that may be off-topic for this group. I'm drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon, my all-time favorite cheap American beer. Do you subscribe to alt.beer also? Somebody there is looking for great beer in Tijuana. Can you recommend Cerveza Tijuana TJ?

I dunno about Pabst -- my grandpa introduced me to beer when I was about

12 -- Schaeffer was his lager and Ballantine was his ale -- he never could decide whether he was a Dodger or Yankee fan since he lived in Brooklyn but worked in Manhattan.

Anyway, my favorite Mexican beer is Negra Modelo. It's one of the few commercial examples of Vienna Lager left on the planet and it's a fine brew IMO.

I don't do alt.beer anymore -- too much noise and SPAM on the alt.* groups for this lad.

Negra Modelo is the beer I always order at my favorite Mexican restaurant, Olinda's in Old Town. It's on San Diego Avenue just south of all the tourist traps. Just to stay on-topic, they also serve red wine!

Drink as much water as you do wine, and take two aspirin before you go to bed.

Alternatively, regurgitate before sleep.

How can you call it a Vienna Lager? I'll buy that it's a Vienna style beer but it certainly isn't a lager. I'd say that Dos Equis Amber is a good example of a Vienna-style Lager, my preferred Mexican beer. I've heard very good things about a Mexican microbrew called Casta, but limited distribution will keep me from seeing it.

It's the prototypical beer for the style -- here's the description from BJCP style guidelines.

9B. Vienna Lager Aroma: Dark German (Vienna or Munich) malt aroma. A light toasted malt aroma may be present. Similar, though less intense than Oktoberfest. Appearance: Reddish amber to light brown color. Bright clarity and solid foam stand. Flavor: Soft, elegant malt complexity is in the forefront, with a firm enough hop presence to provide a balanced finish. Some toasted character from the use of Vienna malt. Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, with a gentle creaminess. Medium carbonation. Overall Impression: Characterized by soft, elegant maltiness that dries out in the finish to avoid becoming overly sweet. History/Comments: The original amber lager developed by Anton Dreher shortly after the isolation of lager yeast. Nearly extinct in its area of origin. The style owes much of its character to the method of malting (Vienna malt). Lighter overall than Oktoberfest, yet still decidedly balanced toward malt. Ingredients: Vienna malt provides a lightly toasty and complex, melanoidin-rich malt profile. As with Oktoberfests, only the finest quality malt should be used, along with Continental hops (preferably noble varieties). Moderately hard, carbonate-rich water. Vital Statistics: OG: 1.046-1.052 IBUs: 18-30 FG: 1.010-1.014 SRM: 8-12 ABV: 4.6-5.5% Commercial Examples: Negra Modelo, Portland Lager, 150 Jahre, Augsburger Red, Leinenkugel Red.

It's very much a lager. What leads you to believe that it's not? It's brewed as one, and has the clean profile that most lagers have.
