Ginger Stout

Jul 25, 2005 2 Replies

I recently attempted to make a Ginger Stout after having a taste at a pub.

Starting off with extract I went through the whole process and dumped a bottle of Ginger Wine into the mix once put into Secondary.

Unable to resist I instantly had a taste which was fantastic. Now however after a month or so, there is a faint smell of ginger but there is no flavour :(

My next attempt will be slightly different. I am going to attempt making a sugar solution several days before I start my next batch. In this sugar solution I will add either ginger root or powdered ginger. When I am ready this will go into the primary.

Would this work or would it be best to add the ginger at a different stage?

Thanks

The same thing happened to me when making a chocolate stout. After bottling you couldn't taste the chocolate.

Did you manage to find a way of fixing this so that you could taste the chocolate?
