secondary fermentation and alcohol content

I just started secondary fermentation on a batch of english brown ale. My starting gravity was 1.040 and my gravity after primary fermentation

was 1.014. Can I expect any decrease in the S.G during secondary fermentation? If so, how much I plan to leave it in the secondary for a week at room temp before bottling.

Most of the ales that I have done have been 1 week in the primary and 1 week in the secondary. It sounds like you ar right about there. The best bet is to wait about a week, then take 3 gravity readings every other day. If the readings don't change, then you're done, bottle and wait about 2 more weeks and enjoy. Make sure the temp is relativey the same for each of your readings.

Maybe a point or 2...maybe not. You can leave it in secondary a couple weeks if you like.
