sterilising glass bottles

Jan 22, 2004 4 Replies

Hi again

I have a friend who sterilises her glass jars (for making jam) in the oven by simply baking them for a certain amount of time. I was wondering if anyone has used/is using this method to sterlised their glass beer bottles before bottling. Thanks for any advice. Amanda.

G'day Amanda,

A good, cheap, easy steriliser is unscented bleach. A better one is iodophor.

See John Palmer's book for details:

Yea, it's called autoclaving, they do it all the time in chemistry to sterilize glassware. I've never had a big enough oven to fit two cases of beer bottles in though, Victor
