Stirring Question

Hi

When an ale is in the fermentation bucket is it best to leave it or give it a good stir every day or so ?

Don't touch it!

Stir in the yeast if you must (though I never do), but once its sealed, leave it that way.

Stirring it will cause the beer to oxidize, as well as disturbing the protective carbon dioxide layer which will open the wort to unwanted bugs and infections.

I agree with John and Yamahas. Do not stir.

My very first kit actually advised that I stirred everyday. Was glad I had read up enough before hand to realise that this was bad advise! Shocking considering that the kit came from a good brewery in Yorkshie!!!

Thanks for the replies. Like PieOPah my first kit's instructions mentioned "daily stirring". I'll keep away in future.
