Getting cold here in New England, and looking for new stock to fuel the guy behind the snow-blower. Was disappointed with almost all of my 2008 China reds and oolongs. How was the Assam crop this year? Any special recommendations for a winter warmer?
Cheers-

It's nice to hear your voice again, Dog! I'm afraid I can't help you with Assams, but could you elaborate on what disappointed you in China reds this year? Was there a trend or just scattered letdowns?

Ditto on the good to hear from you part.
Also interested in what your experience with China Reds has been, I just ordered 4kg for Christmas presents and winter stash.

In the words of one of De Niro's more delightfully ambiguous characters, I never left.
Letdowns without letup, is more like. Tried quite a few; all were pallid compared to last year's. Ditto with most oolongs I tasted. Didn't have a single '08 dan cong I liked. Thought it must be my taste buds or something, but retained samples of dian hong and dan cong from 2007 were holding up fine, with or without re-roasting. Wish I'd bought more of the new, or given away less of the old.
Oh well, only a few months until 2009 picks arrive in shops everywhere. Wonder how prices will stand, with the dollar and fuel prices both down. Maybe I'll just keep swilling the old reliable Yorkshire Gold.
