I like YiXing, but failing that, I would use a little glazed porcelain pot, espeically if you don't care for gaiwans. These can be had at Chinese shops. They are easy enough to clean, and therefore you needn't worry about the sheng/shu (cooked/green) thing. As for myself, I'm using a gaiwan more and more.

Hey me again. Don't buy another YiXing. Since you are experimenting with the tea, you want porcelain because it will in no way interact with the flavor of the tea as an YiXing pot would. If you buy an YiXing pot, you will get interaction between the clay and the tea and later between the old tea residue and new tea. This is considered a good thing, but not what you want right now. To test a new tea, or introduce yourself to one, you want porcelain, which means a gaiwan or a small porcelain pot. Good luck.

i just bought a few samples of green and if i dont like them i dont think that they will hurt that yixing enough that it cant be turned into a cooked puerh pot.

Even if i hadnt ordered the samples i still wanted a new yixing and even if i like the raw pu im still going to buy another pot. the one i have i got before i really understood yixing and it has been used for all sorts of teas (not any flovored ones though) plus it is not of very good quality, but for awile now i have only been making the puerh in it and i cant tell a differance in it and when i make it in my mug infuser. It might not have had enough tea made it it to really make a difference yet.

Heya frogman18, a quick question, are you properly seasoning your Yixing teapots? If not then you could get away with trying out the raw puerh and then reverting to cooked or another variety... but once you settle on the tea you plan on using in it I suggest you season it properly. Here is a quick guide google turned up:

You can read a lot more about the process with a web search, once you properly season your pots you should notice a difference and it will then affect the ability to switch teas at will.

hola,

some days ago i found this web with video explanations about kung fu brewing. for me was revealing, never saw something similar [in madrid is hard to find a chinese service like that...], although i've read about that in many differents versions with pictures included.

and in this web is also explained how to season a tea pot, and how to clean it

i don't know what will you think about that, but for me as an introduction [i think at the moment won't try to season a tiny clay tea pot i have] has been very valuable
