I've seen his posts in other groups and he might be a troll because he only posts these strange things and doesn't otherwise participate. From a reply in rec.radio. shortwave where his query was "How to access the usenet with my radio":

Every month or so, this troll floods 1300 newsgroups (all cross-posted to a single unrelated newsgroup) with superficially relevant comments. The purpose of to disrupt with off-topic crosspostings. Browse the can.sun-stroke newsgroup for the "big picture" on this troll..."

I knew a couple of people that did put salt in coffee.

Yeah, I know someone who did that too. He said it took the bitterness out. I'm getting him on good coffee, though, so he won't need it. :-)
