Has anyone tried the Ardbeg Very Young?
Nice whisky but a bit oily and clearly not truly ready.

Full ACK, tried it during a destillery visit last year. Very very "peaty" (But the destillery is very very nice...)

I think the Comittee Approved is excellent, don't know about the For Discussion bottling, I didn't taste it myself. I posted my opinion on a dutch-language newsgroup (nl.dranken.whisky), but no-one seemed to know it or agree with me (I got only 2 replies, of which only one was on-topic). Someone on
I tried some again this afternoon, and was once more impressed with its subtle complexity, although it is very young. It certainly has the Ardbeg-character. I find it fresh, green, peaty, salty, slightly sweet. (I'm no great talent at writing tasting notes.) It doesn't get boring after one glass, which is a my best indication for calling whiskies 'very good'. Perhaps there's a difference in bottlings, but could it be that there's prejudice against young whiskies? I'm convinced that in blindtasting AVY, it would come out much better. Of course that's just my opinion, but there are many!

I tried it at Juul's i Copenhagen on the 28th of december and I *loved* the peaty punch so I bought a bottle.
I have no tasting notes yet since the bottle is still unopened due to me being less keen on alcohol after a heavy new years day ("leave me here - I die here"). (Don't mix excellent single malts with cheap "champagne" is my advice for this year. Stick to the single malts!)
However, my memory is short and I will soon open my Very Young Ardbeg. Something to look forward to!
Cheers! Ingemar
