An outstanding italian wine

1995 Valdicava, Bruello Di Montalcino "Madonna Del Piano"

Received 6 bottles as a gift and never heard of it. Don't really see much quality Italian in stores.

This stuff was GREAT!!! Anyone ever have this before?

Nice gift! A bit out of my league at $212 a bottle. :-)

Enjoy

Which is invariably the problem with the better Italian wines. I was browsing a very nice in-store selection of Barolos last night - but ouch! - the prices were prohibitive.

Italian wines really have come up in both fame and price in export markets over the years. At one time many top Barolos and other top Italian wines were much less expensive than first growth Bordeaux, which was not then extremely expensive, even considering inflation between the 1960s or 1970s and now. The problem back then was in finding such top wines in many markets outside of a few major cities. Brunello from Biondi-Santi from the best years was very expensive back them, and some called it the "Romanee-Conti" of Italy because of the price. Others called it "godfather wine", because only a godfather who liked expensive Italian wines could afford it. However I can think of few other Italian wines, that now often sell in the $US 100+ range on release, that were extremely expensive back in the 60s or 70s.

A Nephew that is now flying for the Navy. We helped raise him when his parents divorced. Both were irresponsible parents.

Richard, It sounds like you did a wonderful job of filling in for them.

He was a lucky guy. And obviously a top-notch mind and socially aware and appreciative. Glad the Navy has these guys. Cudos, Dee Dee

Could be cause he is a pilot and officer?

And he just informed me tonight he eloped, got married today.

His first deployment orders are due next month however.

I will celebrate when I hear it is not Iraq or Irag support!

Not necessarily - at the time 4 stars got you $1500/mo. Congrats to your kid! And good luck to your both on the deployment. I was in Vietnam (though in a cushy job) and wouldn't wish that on anyone.
