Laphroaig 10

For several years from the mid 90's (before I started to really explore different singe malts), Laphroaig 10 was THE malt I used to drink, and I loved it. The last one I bought until today was bought early in 2004. I felt then that it wasn't the same old good one anymore. (I found the CS to be great though).

So, anyone else out there sharing this happy experience? (I remember there was some posts on the NG a few years back about Laphroaig being not as good as before).

Yes, I've tried the QC, and I absolutely see what you mean with your description! It's quite intence and powerful. I liked it, but I also found it a bit simple and raw; probably due to its low age. (5 to 6 years I'm told). I actually like the standard 10 yo better. (Todays version anyway!)

Laphroaig 10 y.o. was my first malt ever and *WHOAH* it was good! Unfortunately I have to agree that the new bottling does not taste like the good old Laphroaig and unfortunately I have not found good Laphroaig

IMHO Laphroaig Quarter Cask is more close to the original taste; the taste I got used to with Laphroaig 10 y.o.

I opened up a bottle a couple of days ago and was very pleased.....however, I never had the old Laphroaig. Love it- period.

Around 2000 or so I thought the Laphroaig 10 was tasting really light. Like thin--reduced in its unique peat character to something not worth getting in. In the last couple years, I've picked up a bottle every six months or so and they've been delicious again.

If I remember correctly, the first OB CS was launched in the late 90's. Perhaps after a while they got a shortage of good casks, and all the best went to CS for a couple of years? Whatever happened, let's hope Laphroaig 10 stays stable in the future!
