If it's not there for drinking it's worthless IMO anyway. Surely a whisky's true value is not measured by its age or rarity but by other more tangible qualities.

What did Macallan use as a reference when they made their replicas? Is it that we're drinking/enjoying the 1989 line or is it really the 1861? It's a sad thing this happened over Macallan. Who's next.
IMO, whisky is for drinking. Not for collecting anyway.
With you there. It makes me so sad that some of the most exciting whiskies will remain in their bottles untouched.
I have a friend who collects miniatures - I just can't bring myself to leave untouched a whisky that I've not tasted before. I might give him a copy of Our Man in Havana and see if he goes for the alternative board game. If you've read it you'll know what I mean.
I'm definitely on this side of the fence. I collect mini bottles that are either attractive or markers of high quality. I drink anything in the house that's more than 5cl.
Though, having said that, I found out today that Blanton's doesn't sell their mini bottles anymore. These were both high quality and cute because they had tiny little ponies on the caps.
