I'll be visiting Toronto for a meeting in August, staying downtown near the convention center. I was wondering if there are any stores that had a good Islay selection, particularly Arbegs that aren't available in the U.S.
Unfortunately as Toronto is under control of a liquor monopoly, there is currently a dismal selection of Ardbeg: a bunch of MMD 1991/10yo's, the OB 10yo and a bunch of overpriced OB 17yo's which are a mere shadow of what the original OB 17yo used to be. If you'd like more info you can visit

and have a good weep. ;o)
As for stores to visit, 10 Scrivener Square has the best selection but, depending on what state you're in, I doubt you'll be overwhelmed by the Islay selection. To get there you'll be taking a cab from downtown up Yonge Street to a renovated train station; you can simply ask your driver to take you to the "Summerhill Liquor Store".
Now if you're content to sample a great selection of Ardbegs, rather than actually buy and take them back home, drop in on a pub called The Feathers in The Beaches neighbourhood

Proprietor and publican Ian Innes is an ex-pat Scot and has been privately importing whiskies for his pub for years now. When I was there a month ago I noticed the Ardbeg 1975, Ardbeg 1977, Ardbeg Provenance and Ardbeg Lord of the Isles on his menu, along with as a smattering of indies including OMC offerings from the early 1970s.
