2000 St. Suprey Merlot

Opened & decanted for the time it took to bathe & dry my cat, aprox 35min. Clean nose...Huge blackberry fruit, hints of leather, cassis & clove. Clear, ruby red color with hints of orange @ the rim. Dry, big cherry, blackberry & currant flavors, hint of oak & an undertone of leather. Very smooth med tannins, (peaking now, IMHO), moderate acidity, good length on the finish with just a hint of licorice. Did'nt taste hot, belying it's

13.5% alc content. Conclusions: nice drinking wine, worth what I paid & Definitely a drink now to 1 year vintage. note: I brought this wine from lying down, to upright & decanted immediately. I noticed alot of veeeery fine sediment had risen, fairly high, in the bottle, I reccomend standing this baby up for a couple of days before uncorking.

I am most impressed by the cat drying time. If I tried to do that, it would take hours--5 minutes to get the cats wet, and hours in the emergency room to recover from what the cats thought of getting wet.

She's a 10 week old kitten, by the name of Chablis, easy victim.

Thanks. I always seem to be out-of-phase with this winery. I'll read/hear of a very good one, then can only find the next vintage, which turns out to be weak. I've had the same luck with the wines of Firestone, CA-Coastal winery. One set of friends loves it, and each bottle (regardless of varietal) is very good. With another set of folk, every bottle is plonk. Some people have all the luck.
