Last night was the year's first gathering of our food and wine group. My turn to bring the wine to accompany the host's grilled NY steaks with gorgonzola butter. Decided to pop corks on a couple of the '01 Haut Bages Liberal that have been gathering dust in the cellar for a couple years. The wine is aging wonderfully. Cassis, with mineral undertones. Soft and subtle. Still going to improve for another few years, but very approachable now.
Per wine searcher, still available in a few places; wine commune in Berkeley has some for $35 a bottle - a great value for an excellent Bordeaux.
