had an impromtu get together with the neighbors last night with an Italian theme so I brought the wine. Various antipasti, some Red Cow, salumi, then meatballs with grilled polenta and peppers. There was a gluten free pasta that I passed on. I opened a 2007 Felsina Chianti Classico Rancia and a 199

7 Fontodi Flaccianello. The Felsina was fragrant with ripe cherries and pl ums plush tannins and a bit of smoke. A solid "B+ but needs time. The Flac cianello was somewhat brickish in color. Nose showed some maturity with ce dar and leather notes underneathblack cherries and currants. Smooth on the palate with more mature notes than I expected. Maybe an advanced bottle b ut plenty of tertiary leathery, cigarbox, tobacco than expected. B-.
