British Columbia Wines

May 09, 2005 5 Replies

My wife is going to BC on business soon. Any suggestions on which red wines she should get me. They'd have to be ones that are in the

15-30$cdn range, only in BC(something that I can't get in Ontario), full bodied and fruity(plummy etc).

Secondly, (sorry for my ignorance re BC but do they have Liquor Control Board stores there as in Ontario?

TIA

Larry

Or how about just allowing private wine shops like they have in the rest of the free world?

They do exist here.

I'm not too sure about this. The wine shop, IIRC, only carries a handful of brands of Vincor's. Maybe everything of these labels but none of the smaller labels.

Edgemont wine shop in N. Van. and its sister Village Wines on 41st @ Dunbar in Vancouver specialise exclusively on B.C VQA wines. ANother with decent selection of wines not sold by the local LCB/LDB is Broadway Wines on Broadway @ MacDonald.

I like this one (cab-something) from Blossom which is actually based in Richmond but buys its grapes from the Okanagan. It's pretty much what you want. Some of Calon'a single vineyard offerings are quite good.

Yes, and also quite a few private stores. Some of them specialise exclusively on B.C. VQA wines.
