Dom Perignon Champagne storage

My husband and I were just given a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne 1980. We want to store the champagne but don't know anything about wine/champagne storage. I have read online that light, vibration, temperature, humidity and position are all factors and am having a hard time figuring out where to store the bottle. I would appreciate any tips on how to best handle the storage. We are on the south coast of england, so I guess we have a bit of humidity. We are near a train line so that is a point of concern. If I need to provide any more info, please let me know.

thanks in advance, Heather

Hi Heather,

I think sometimes there is too much worry about storing wine- so don't let others get you too worked up. Provided you have darkness and the proper temperature, the rest is not as important as some like to think. Vibration and humidity are certainly issues to consider, but I think they are too often fretted over excessively.

1980 Dom Perignon should be ready to drink, so I would suggest that for a short term solution (ie up to a few years) just keep the bottle in the fridge. It will be fine in there. Champagne is very sensitive to temperature, so keeping it cold is the top priority.

Then when you are ready to drink it, it will already be properly chilled :)

Take care,

Tom.

Thanks so much Tom. I was hesitant to put it in the fridge as I had read storing Wines at too low a temperature causes problems, but I didn't find anything about Champagne. So, it's gone in the fridge and I eagerly wait when we will pop it open :)

thanks again, Heather
