What is everyone drinking for July 4th. We were planning a cellar emptier of older zindfandels and Syrahs but the fires have prevented the big barbecue planned. Much smaller party anticipated. Will bring in barbecue instead of making it ourselves.

I've got a bottle of 1999 Turley Hayne Vineyard Petite Syrah I'm planning to open and a few older Oregon Pinot Noir from Domaine Drouhin.
As I've aged (and my wines haven't had the opportunity) I find myself going lighter in the hot months. Probable quaffs for Independence Day in super-heated Texas will be chilled Rose (got some very pleasant pinot grigio/gris pinks around) or Sauvignon Blanc (currently working through a very nice Twoomey Vineyard SB).
If I need or want red, I'll opt for a chilled Beaujolais.
Anticipate something cool on the plate as well. Very likely a shrimp Louis on romaine. Otherwise, SWMBO returned from a recent Whole Foods excursion with some Pacific coast salmon and baramundi. The salmon cold, the Oz perch probably sauted with a butter reduction.
It's only July 1 and 100-degrees is already getting old.
We have decided on 3 Turley vineyard designations Rattlesnake, Haye, and, Whitney all from 2001. Also will be trying some 2007 Turley Petit Syrah as all of us have 3 bottles of this. Barbecue was just too big for Roses though we are starting with Rose of Cabernet Franc first. Sparklers are to be brought for dessert but all surprise.
