Fredericksburg, TX wine

Hello all

Next week I'm visiting Fredericksburg, Texas and I know that it has got it's own AVA. I don't expect there to be great wines there, but what can I expect? Is it even worth trying the local wine while dining there?

thanks in advance

You have little to lose by trying something once and forming your own opinion. The only things that I truly regret from my past travels are the things that I was too tired (or too penurious) to try when I was there. If I am ever fortunate enough to get to Norway, rest assured that I shall seek out some Reindeer and anything else that I can not find at home in Texas. I shall not be dissuaded by anyone telling me:

"You won't like it!"

I'm sorry if I sounded ignorant or even arrogant. I always try the local stuff, be it brew or food, wherever I am. I was merely interested in what I might expect...

So... are there any varietals or blends that are particurlarly interesting from Texan wineries? I've read somewhere that Cab S. is supposed to be quite ok...

Reindeer is very good, so please try it if you can. Norwegian wild salmon is good, I catch a lot of it myself. Elk and deer is excellent. Norwegian lamb is also excellent. The only true Norwegian alcoholic beverage thats really interesting is "Akevitt".

Great, interesting town. Texas-German heritage there. Haven't been since around 1983. Bet it hasn't changed.

BTW, I have been to at least one winery in Texas, it may have even been the same one, but I don't remember. I just recall it being a very pleasant trip.
