My thoughts (in order of preference):
1) Guiness! Oh yeah, not wine. 2) Harps! Oh.... 3) Riesling. Remember, choucroute and Riesling are traditional (will post notes today about a choucroute dinner Saturday). As Irish styled corned beef and cabbage is a bit more assertive and salty, I'd go off-dry though. 4) While it's not REALLY green, Grüner Veltliner wouldn't be bad. Better than Vinho verde. 5) If you needed to go with red, I'd try a lighter Sangiovese or maybe an inexpensive Zin.tech apology- since I started using Google groups on one computer, I've noticed that I'm getting dropped letters (or gobblygook) on some accented characters. I'll try to avoid the accents when postig from Google from now on.
That is one tough match! I, who try to find a wine for EVERTHING will second DaleW's choices. I'd try a Riesling first, then the GV, but probably the stouts and Porters.

Yes I have, and, despite the name, Grüner Veltliner isn't really green. Certainly nothing like the copious amounts of green beer that's served in the USA on St Patrick's Day.

whereas in fact it is viewed correctly when viewing it as an ISO-8859-1 encoding. As most newsreaders allow one to manually choose the character set encoding, it's possible to view your message correctly, but still a PITA. Maybe a note to Google?

Well, Ken, not exactly, however there is always Vino Verde , and some SB's do have a greenish tinge, but that is about all I've ever encountered - or wish to.
