I am shocked, appauled, disappointed, outraged..... [Nick's versus Dan's]

Hello,

Andrew Goldfinch put me onto Nick's wine merchants [

] that they gave 97/100 to.

Being that Nick's is an awful lot further away than dans [dan murphys] I popped into dans to buy mother and father a couple of treats before heafing up there.

I had a 2 page list of things I'd been eyeing off, but went straight for the Waterwheel [97/100 is a pretty strong recommendation]. I grabbed one off the shelf not thinking to check the price against the price I had from Nick's website.

I got them all back to mum and dads, in the lovely bag you can now buy for $1AU [its really quite handy, it has 6 pockets, is sturdy and has a velcro handle to sort of close the bag] and we perused them as we often do. Had a look in Halliday etc.

I was looking at the bill, and it was $16.99 at Dans. And only $14.99 at Nicks [as advertised on the web]. O dan, dan, dan, why have you forsaken me? $2 cheaper at a boutique outlet???????????

Needless to say I have been inconsolable all afternoon.

Don't be. Uncle Dan advertises that they will "beat any price". You might get it for $14.98. Just take a receipt and show them. Ron

Hello Ron,

Yeah I think they used to advertise 5% below the other advertised price.

It is just a bit of an effort to go back for $2, and I'd probably need to print out the Nick's add etc anyway.

I did some other price matching Nicks vs dans, and where nicks was say $14.99 dans would be $14.90.

How I hate to be right Mat :)

Have you tried that Marinda Park Norms Noir yet? If so I would be interested in your opinion. Cheers Andrew

Hi Andrew,

The way you edited that post makes it sound funny.

Yeah Dan's I think trawls through newspaper and flyer adds and adjusts prices accordingly. I'm not sure how they missed Nicks. They probably don't do websites.

There is another place in Glen Waverly I think that used to advertise on Friday [the day after Dans advertisement on the Thrusday] both in The Age who also said they'd beat any price. So I often wondered if they were forced to give it away for free.

I have not tried the Marinda Park Norms Pinot Noir yet. I am looking forward to it however. Very much so. I have a feeling it will be this week or early next week.

P.S.: Did you see Ron's post about Vue De Monde etc in the help wanted US dinner thread?
