I Drink 750ML Every 2 Days

Am I an alcoholic? I drink about 375ML of Fetzer Chardonnay a day. Is this excessive?

The mere fact that you ask indicates that you are not. Yet... Take a couple days off per week or a near dry week each month. Consumption tends to rise and all of a sudden you have exceeded your limit and become one. Taking some time off may contribute to lower your risks. Anders

This is the wrong group (I think) for this discussion, but that comes to two glasses or so, which with dinner is not excessive. Every day with dinner, it adds up. But the question doesn't just concern quantity, it concerns reasons. =Why= are you drinking? With whom? Under what circumstances? Could you simply stop? (actually try it - stop for a month, see if it is hard or not).

The answers to these questions would be much more enlightening than either the quantity, or your choice of a Fetzer Chardonnay (which is more on-topic for this group :)

2 glasses of wine a day for the average adult is not considered excessive use. Especially if you consume with meals.

Considered by whom?

In the UK the official adiCe for adult males is a maximum of 21 units per week. 75cl of any wine over 8% every 2 days will exceed this limit.

(Whether you agree or disagree with this advice is another matter.)

That's a typo. Should've been "official advice".

In the UK (different countries have slightly different definitions) a unit is 10ml of alcohol. It is supposed to be an easy to understand measure as it corresponds roughly to a glass of many alcoholic drinks. IMO it confuses more than it helps.

The weekly max for women is 14.

Steve,

Thanks for the clarification. Your posts always make perfect sense (to me, at least) and this one had me stymied. I read, re-read, held it up to a mirror, etc. and just could not follow. Now, the light bulb is illuminated over my head.

Easy to poke fun at non-metric people :-) - 21 units of 10ml gives

210ml!cl=2.1dl=.21l Multiply by 8 to get volume of wine(.5% abv) and you have 1.6l = 2 bottles a week. Anders

Two glasses of Fetzer a day? You may not be an alcoholic - but you need some wine buying advice.

In Italy or F_____, you would be laughed at as a light-weight drinker.

It's a bit over US recommendations for a male of two 4 or 5 oz glasses. 4 or 5 oz depending on the source.

It's over twice the recommendation for senior males, but I am not sure of the age cutoff for that.

BTW, you blood alcohol level will peak at 3 times (or more) higher if you drink that much on an empty stomach vs full.

The French government recommended limit is one bottle per day, but the French average consumption is not higher than yours IIRC.

Just my opinion here: In general you might or might not be an alcoholic based on that. You are probably not if you don't ever exceed that and you don't do dangerous things or have a personality change when you drink.
