Out of curiosity, I'd probably try at that price. With the realization that disappointment is likely, despite low expectations.
Never heard of this producer. No-name Barolo at cutrate prices is likely to be real borderline stuff. Either from very edge of defined area, very overcropped, or bought juice that didn't make the grade at a better producer.
Not to throw cold water on idea, it's just that generally any Barolo (or Brunello, Chambolle-Musigny, Tokaji, Hermitage, etc.) that's priced way below norm is probably priced that way for a reason. In larger appelations, say Napa, one might have a slightly better chance of scoring a real deal. Still, I'd try, but that's my love of experimentation
This was the only thing I could find about this wine:
Trader Joe's had the 1997 of this Barolo for sale a few years ago for $12. I bought a few bottles and while it's hard to recognize it as a Barolo, it is worth the price and it has been improving with bottle age. The same can be said of the Barbaresco "che storia" riserva and the Amarone you find often at TJ. Hardly classics but worth the price. So much for DOCG, though. E
