raspberry wine?

I saw a bottle of raspberry wine at Trader Joe's, with their label. $8, 750 ml.

Worth a fling?

I think it is worth buying a bottle. I lived in Germany 30 years ago and used to buy strawberry sparkling wine (Erdbeer Sekt), and my wife and I enjoyed it from time to time.

Give it a try.

I know it: it's not wine and $8 is too much!

I think the best fruit wines in the US are bottled under the "Chaucer's" label by Bargetto Winery in Soquel, CA if you can get them. They used to make a great plum wine, but their source was orchards in what is now the Silicon Valley. I don't know whether to be sad or happy...

Ah, those long-gone Santa Clara orchards that used to line 101. Bargetto, though, is near the Pacheco Pass, no? So they probably still have ready access to all those Central Valley and Salinas Valley orchards.

No, Soquel is between Santa Cruz and Aptos on the North Monterey Bay. The wineryand tasting room is just a couple of blocks up Main St. (which is not *the* main street. *The* main street is Soquel Drive. Go figure.)

Ah, so. I know Soquel well, as we used to drive there from a beach house in La Selva Beach to get cinnamon pull-aparts at Neldam's Bakery (on Soquel Ave. no less). I hadn't realized that Bargetto was in Soquel, as I mostly remember seeing signs for it while traversing the Pacheco Pass on Hwy 152. I guess that I should've Googled before responding.
