New Parker book any good?

Jul 21, 2005 4 Replies

What's the verdict on The Emperor of Wine: The Rise of Robert M. Parker, Jr. and the Reign of American Taste? Is it any good? I have a coupon good for 30 percent off a book at Border's and thought this might be a good one to use it on.

You saw the thread, "New Parker Biography," here 14-June? (If not, it's available in archives.) Some pre-publication comments from galleys by bfson.

I looked back through the threads to the book's publication date and not beyond that, so I missed that. Thanks for the tip, but still there wasn't a lot of discussion about the book. It was more about Parker. Maybe since the book's been out for a while now there will be more people who've read it to review it.

You might check Mark Squires' Bulletin Board on eRobertParkom.com where the book is discussed in extenso. Use the search function over there for "emperor".

After visiting Martinelli this weekend and tasting their 17.5% alcohol Zinfandel, I know everything I need to know about Parker and Turley. Bleech! They have ruined the California wine industry, and beyond.
