Novelty wines

Some friends presented me with a bottle of "Old Fart" Grenache-Syrah 2002 (product of France). I'll try almost anything once, and in this case once was enough. Not an awful wine, and not quite in the drain cleaner category. A suitable food match would be White Castle hamburgers (AKA "sliders"). :-)

Agreed. There is nothing worse than people that try to emulate new world style in the old world.

Hi Mike, I enjoy Syrah, Sirah and Shiraz from various parts of the world, but I've never purchased or tried a good Grenache. I understand some of the best Grenache is Chateau Rayas from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I'll hold off until I get that winning lottery ticket.

No need to spend that much, tonight I had an excellent pure grenache from the Estezargues coop (6€). Try a lesser Chateauneuf from a good producer.

How about a bottle of Marquis de Sade Champagne. Actually it is at least decent Champagne, and does have a connection with the infamous Marquis de Sade. The original label was banned in the US, because it showed a constrained very young girl being whipped. You will have to settle for a much tamer label these days. Some links concerning Marquis de Sade Champagne are below.

Sirs: I run the Flatulence Clinic here in Ojai. My brother Neddie is "Proctologist to the Stars". I do gastro stuff---do you think OLD Fart can put me on their label. TIA
