Greetings ;
The June tasting of the OWS was a continuation of the Terroir series exploring the effect of terroir on Chardonnay grown here in the Niagara Peninsula.
Eight wine were tasted and my notes follow;
- Inniskillin 2000 Scheule Vineyard -A flinty nose followed by an astringent medium mouth feel. My third choice.
- Inniskillin 2002 Scheule Vineyard - A fruity nose and taste with well balanced medium mouth. Second choice.
- Inniskillin 2000 Klose Vineyard - A thin nose with a thin acidic mouth. Three way tie for fourth.
- Inniskillin 2002 Klose Vineyard - Again a thin nose and flinty mouth. Two way tie for fifth.
- Inniskillin 2000 Montague Vineyard - Slightly musty nose and mouth. Corked?? Three way tie for fourth.
- Inniskillin 2002 Montague Vineyard - A medium nose with a thinnish acidic mouth. Three way tie for fourth.
- CdC 1999 Paul Bosc Vineyard - A medium nose with an iodiny mouth. Two way tie for fifth.
- CSC 1997 Cave Springs Vineyard - AT LAST! A lovely buttery nose and mouth. Full mouth with some subtle oak showing and long lovely finish. After the 7 previous wines I went over the top and scored it 100. Probably really deserved a strong 90 or so. Obviously my first choice of the tasting.
All wines retailed in the area of C$17 except for number 8 which retailed at C$35.
