I lurk in this ng all of the time and find it fascinating. I don't know much, if anything, about wine but I like it! I am single and it takes me a while to drink a bottle of wine. How long will a opened bottle of red wine stay drinkable?

Depends on the wine. Many reds I drink I find much better the day after opening. One or two days and I rarely have any left.
Many people buy 1/2 bottle sized containers. They drink 1/2 bottle then pour the rest into the container and cap so there is little to no air getting to the wine. Could last quite some time this way if stored at a stable cool temperature.
A more sophisticated method is to purchase a nitrogen purging kit. After consuming a partial bottle it is corked and the air in the bottle purged with nitrogen. Many restaurants do this for their wine by the glass sales.
