the Vitanza was pretty economical for a Brunello at $25.

It sounds like the Altesino was suffering a bit from restaurant storage. Many restaurants just don't have proper storage facilities and often store them in a back room with no temp control. I like the Vitanza too and more recent vintages are fairly available here in Ohio.
