Chorey-lès-Beaune is a bit of a geological oddity - for some reason, a scrap of terroir in the middle of the clay plain east of the golden slope. In the hands of good producers not seldom a good budget alternative, often (to my mind, but I buy at the cellar door) good QPR. Agree with Bi!!, not elegant but can be a good quaffer. Funny, we were induced to blind-taste a red at our friends' house a few months back - we were convinced the wine was a Northern Rhone, most likely St Joseph - but it turned out to be a Chorey. I do not remember name of producer (we buy our Chorey at Poulleau, in Volnay), it was not bad though, just - untypical.
