Santa Tresa Avulisi Nero d'Avola 2002

Had this last night. Fantastic! Reminded me of a Brunello, believe it or not. Incredibly long finish. Clearly the standout wine of the evening, which also feature a Taurasi riserva.

100% Nero d'Avola. 14% alcohol.

$32.

OK....I have read enough in this group to know that UC hdoesn't have the best reputation here, but me, being me, likes to be a tad opened minded, so I'll ask a question, specifically generated by one of his posts...

What does "incredibly long finish" mean.

I understand the whole "retronasal" thing...but how can a wine be "longer"? Wouldn't that be based on how long it too me to exhale through my nose, etc? Is it a deal with, even thoguh I have finshed exhaling, and have tasted whatever I need to taste, the smell/taste of the wine LINGERS in me? I can understand that...I'm just not up on the lingo...

Jeff...

That you still feel the taste next morning... Seriously, the taste of most wine is gone within a few seconds. Some of the better ones linger on for a while and if you still have the ghost of the taste in your mouth a minute or two before it is finished and gone - well, that is a very long finish... Anders
