Sassicaia, counterfit

from the wall st journal Aug 10 regarding 20,000 bottles of counterfit wines, including the 1995 Sassicaia:

the wine itself was produced using a variety of cabernet from the veneto region, blended with montepulciano d'abruzzo.

the marquis(rochetta) concedes that the fakes were "pretty well done" and the wine was "without defects"

If these guys can make a decent $150 wine using a couple of 2 buck chucks, they are in the wrong business. they should be blending.

lots of defects in the story. they claim that 95 sas is $650 us. looks more like 150 to me.
