TN Sassicaia 1980

This was a very weak year in much of Northern Italy. I have stored this wine properly since shortly after release.

The wine is medium scarlet with just a bit of age showng around the rim. It reminds me of slightly spiced plums more than cassis. It is a bit thin. It is still decent drinking, but nothing special. It would not show well against Sassicaia of stronger years. I bought this before the price of Italian cult wines went into orbit. I must admit that better examples of some of these international-style cult wines are very good wines, although far from good buys. However I tend to drink Italian wines made from traditional Italian grapes. There is very good Italian wine beyond cult wines, Brunello, and Barolo. You may have to hunt it out in many countries.
