Hadrian's Wall Pubs???

Are there any good pubs in walking distance to the Wall? I know the wall streches across England for 80 some odd miles. Just wanted to combine some good ale with sight seeing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Six years ago we walked from hadrian's wall to a neat pub in Haltwhistle (or some such)on the A69.

But we stayed in a pub/B&B in Haydon Bridge, which had a few nice pubs and was also not far from the wall.

Many years ago, the Fisherman's Bar of the George Hotel, Chollerford, used to be good, but I don't know if it still is, or even if it still serves real ale. The George itself served a good sunday lunch. Chollerford is handy for Chesters fort and bridge abutment.

Corbridge has a good fort, on the Stanegate rather than on the wall itself, and some interesting pubs including the Black Bull which brews its own.

If you're interested in visiting the "urban" bit of the wall, Wallsend and South Shields (off the end of the wall but part of the same military complex) have interesting forts with good museums and reconstructed Roman buildings. I don't think Wallsend has any good pubs, but South Shields has a few (the Dolly Peel, the Alum House and the Beacon, which is nearest the fort) and of course you're a short Metro ride from Newcastle which has loads.
