Hello; Well, if I´ve been away, then, I am back. SOme problem with the ISP, or the connection, or the modem, or a router, with everybody blaming everybody else ... so I didn´t really get to enjoy your friendly answers to my question concerning the Oldest Bottle You Ever Bought, exxcept afterwards, by Mr Google. So, with a few very wine interested friends, last Saturday, I opened OBEB. Appelation Coteaux de Layon "Super-Anjou" 1949. Producer Sylvain Mainfray - dead, no doubt, lo these many moons. Well, the company apparently still exists ... (Mr Google wanted to know if I really meant Mainframe). While the cork fell apart in the process of pulling it out, the bottle, as such, was well-filled. The wine was not darker than the ordinary present-day CdLayon, i e, a rich gold. Nose a bit shy, hinting at dry fruits. On palate, freshly acidic, balanced by honey sweetness, more dried fruits, and a very pleasant raw mushroom taste (bite into a raw Champgnon de Paris, and you´ll know what I mean). Very palatble, highly enjoyable, with a :( for the price I paid - EU 70. But in my opinion, it was worth it. This wine was my exact age (since I was born Oct 1949), I am quite certain it could have rested for a decade or two more. No hint of tiredness, or failing powers. Great.
