TN: 2003 Dom de la Solitude

Not sure why I have this, must have heard something good somewhere. It's made by Dom. de Chevalier, but I think is not a second wine. Maybe I considered 11 EU a good price... :)

Nose very tight, oak and Elmer's Glue. A strange pastiche of un-integrated flavours in the mouth: vanilla, oak, jammy plums, tar, garrigue (!). Round and a bit flabby except for the oak juice backbone. Very modern style, could almost be a chemistry set wine. Oh, did I mention the vanilla oak?

Hopefully it will come together in a few years, (or at least mute itself) but it certainly won't age well longer than 5 or so. In any case I don't plan on opening another bottle for a while.

Not recommended.

2003 was pretty tough in Graves.

I liked the 2000 a bit better:

2000 Domaine de la Solitude (Pessac-Leognan) Is this a second? Label mentions Domaine de Chevalier. Funny (but not unpleasant) spearmint thing on the nose, palate is more straightforward. Lighter styled Bordeaux, with red fruits eventually showing a darker side, with a little cassis. Not a lot of length. Not a lot of complexity here, but a decent little Graves. B/B-

I discovered later it is not a second, but a separate estate in Martillac belonging to a group of nuns. The wine is made by Olivier Bernard of Domaine de Chevalier.
