Hello; Roquette sur Mer La Clape 2000 [C] Rather dark but showing signs of age in a slight brick color. [n] Blakcberries, sweet licorice, slightly unclean [p] Continues the nasal experience with dark fruit, a slight hint of licorice, very slight, if not missing, acidity, overripe sweetness. Ends on robust nad not unpleasantly astringent tannins, medium, not rustic. Overall impression: Flabby and jammy, I can´t believe that I fell head over heels for this wine in August 2003 - however, my excuse is that it was at that Languedoc tasting in the Danish "spittoons are for sissies" style, leaving me organoleptically challenged after tasting 50+ Southern French reds ... this wine comes across as a low budget Oz. Tie me kangaroo down, sport - G´day - never mind the prawn on the whatsit - at EU 12 this is too expensive!
Savigny-Le-Beaune 1999 Dom JAcob [c] Light ruby red [n] charming, raspberry, violet, slight hint of oak [p] very good balance between acidity and fruit, the violet lingers - tannins fine and almost elegant Overall impression: I´d much rather pay EU 12 for this little charmer, but, in fact, it cost about half that - EU 7 at the producer in 2000. Don´t save these wines up, Jacob is an honest enough producer, but their wines are for early drinking, not something to save. The `96 are over the top while these bottles are quite all right.
