TN: 99 Alvaro Palacios L`Ermita Priorato

I have to admit, I really don't have much experience with Catalonian (or is it Catalan?) wines, but after this one....really deep purple, nose is very concentrated - cinnamon, raspberries, cassis. On palate velvet texture, red berries, cherry brandy, maybe hint of smoke. Tobacco finish. Difficult to extract all these aromas, very complex, and rich - the word "royal" comes in mind. Cultivated, ripe tannins. Had it as escort of Spanish ripe cheese platter, but I guess it would go well with game. Could someone help with varieties? In my opinion it's mostly Garnacha and some Cab, but it might be something else also in there.

Interesting. I loved Valandraud '95. I think I scored it about 95 points and thought it was magnificent. But this was on a blind tasting with other

40 wines to be tasted in two hours time. A bottle was split in 20 glasses so there was not a big amount of wine to be enjoyed.

Now, I can understand that blind tasting and drinking are very different things and many times, wines that do not shine in a blind tasting can be enjoyed more than others that have too much of everything. As is the case with Priorats.

Best,

S.
