Tuesday was herbed pork chops and a quinoa salad, along with the 2006 Bachelet Cotes de Nuits Villages. I was a little worried this might be shut down, but it was fairly expressive. Black fruit, earth, sandalwood, nice length. Some tannins on the backend. Really nice wine, a real overachiever. Wednesday we had chicken on tabouli at river concert, but I didn't drink due to taking a group to city later. But when I got back from NYC a bit after midnight, had a half glass of the Bachelet while checking email. Even more expressive, fruit getting a lush tone, tannins less evident. Just the faintest hint of oxidation. I think I only have one more, will let rest a few years. B+/ A-
Thursday Dave and Mary Kate joined us for dinner with Szechuan shrimp. Betsy had originally told me "shrimp with snow peas" so I thought Chardonnay would do ok, and opened the 2006 Les Heretiers du Comte Lafon Macon. Sweet, ripe, a bit Californiaesque, but with good length and some interesting floral/mineral notes. B
Dish was a bit spicy for the Burg, so also had the 2007 Donnhoff Estate Riesling. The sweetness helped with dish, but I kept thinking there was a hint of taint in the background. After about 10 minutes I was convinced- corked.
Off to Atlanta for couple days, will still check in occasionally (I'm a wine board addict!)
