Sunday we went to see " The March of the Penguins" (highly recommended- the narration can be excessively anthromorphic, but it's sweet, fun, and amazing) then return home for a late dinner. I did a rack of lamb with a panko/mustard crust, while Betsy made a pesto to serve with spaghetti, along with some leftover slaw. I served the 2002 Domaine Bachelet Côtes de Nuits-Villages (I'm usually for lamb and cab blends, but too much Bordeaux already this week)with high expectations as: I loved the '02 Bachelet basic bourgogne I quite liked the Bachelet CdNV in both '00 & '01 and this got good comments from the Burghound
But this was a bit of a disappointment. Thin and acidic on opening, the light cherry fruit eventually deepening into a more intense raspberry/cherry blend. There was a note of oak hanging around. I didn't get any real sense of Burgundy, however, just a generic Pinot Noir that could be from anywhere. Seems to lack the concentration and the earthiness of the cheaper Bourgogne. It's possible this is just in a closed state, but there's not enough showing to make me want to invest in more bottles to find out.B-
